John Wick 2
I recently-ish watched the first John Wick/Keanu Reeves movie - and for an action/comic book movie it was good fun. So I rented this, the second installment. Same thing - still fun. And there is a third coming - since there is a teeny bit of a cliff hanger at the end of this, the second one...No real Synopsis other than John gets busy with his work.
A Zoo in my Luggage - Book
Gerald Durrell relates some of his adventures collecting animals in Africa for his own zoo. And then a few of the stories about what happened while he was waiting to find a home for all of his newly gathered critters. Good stuff if you like animals and Gerald Durrell.

Rita - TV Show
Although the lead character is a heavy smoker, she is a decent role model - at least while she is at school. Outside of school, she has a few more issues. Like three kids who she had a young age. And boy troubles. In school, she does her best to be an advocate for her students. Overall, good stuff. The first two seasons have a much different feel from the third. And the fourth is completely different - it is in a new school for us, her old school back in her home town. If you like dramas with some uplifting bits, strong female leads and subtitles (unless you understand Danish), this just might be the right series for you!
Hjordis - TV Show (Mini Series)
Hjordis was a spin off of Rita - featuring Hjordis trying to get a play/show together for anti-bullying week. The show was funny, tear jerking and uplifting. Can't beat that!

Bluegate Fields - Book
Anne Perry Victorian mystery author turns in another interesting and compelling book. Though, I did guess who the baddy was the first time they were introduced. A young upper class boy is found drowned in the sewers and turned out to have been homosexually active and syphilitic. Who did it?

Carrie Pilby
Saw this on my Netflix new releases and decided on a whim to watch it. Prodigy Carrie is having some problems adjusting to real life. Some good moments and decent cast. Nathan Lane as a psychologist or psychiatrist was good in this. Worth a watch if you like coming of age sorts of movies. I think I want her camera...
Absolutely Anything
I don't know how I missed this movie. It is a collaboration of the Python People and Simon Pegg. I love Monty Python and Simon Pegg. It is a story of an alien collective who give Simon Pegg's character the ability to do absolutely anything with a wave of his hand. Hilarity and confusion ensue. Kate Beckinsale is also in the movie - yay - and Robin Williams has a small role. One of his last? I enjoyed it and am glad I saw it - not an island movie unfortunately but good.
Blade Runner 2049
I liked it, all things considered. Despite Harrison Ford being displayed prominently in the advertising, he had a pretty small part in the film. Interesting story and glad I saw it. It tells the story of the next generation of replicants who are tasked with finding the remains of the former generation of replicants, only to stumble upon an earth shattering revelation.
Battle of the Sexes
With dinner one night I watched Battle of the Sexes starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell as Billie Jean King (I had a tennis racket that had her name on it (I don't think it was really hers...) when I was a kid at camp back in the 70s. She was my tennis hero for a long time. I also liked Chris Everett and later, Martina Hingis...yay tennis!)) and Bobby Riggs. I vaguely recalled the event from my childhood. I did know that Billie Jean King won, so there wasn't really any suspense for me. I was surprised by other aspects of the film, like Billie Jean's discovering she liked women more than men. I mean, I know she did, but not that she didn't explore those options till that time in her life. And Bobby's circumstances. It was good, not great somehow. Glad I watched it for sure!

Reflex - Book
Dick Francis sure can write a compelling story. Not my favorite author. But still, some good books. This was another. I have no idea what the title has to do with anything. The story follows a jockey (big surprise) who is also a photographer as he tries to figure out some problems that have appeared in his life: a dead photographer who was also a blackmailer, a missing hitherto unknown sister and an owner who wants him to throw the occasional race...All in all, a page turned that is good for anyone who likes thrillers or mysteries or horses or photographers or Dick Francis.

When we First Met
I am not a huge Adam Devine fan. That being said, I liked this movie quite a bit. I like romantic comedies. Hope springs eternal, so they say. Anyway, Adam likes Avery. Adam finds a magic photobooth that let's him go back to when they first met many times to try and make things work between them. Much hilarity ensues. Fun stuff.

Birds, Beast and Relatives - Book
This book is a direct sequel to the other Durrell book that I have read - further adventures in Corfu of Gerry and his family and menagerie. Good stuff!
Creation - Book
In my quest to read all the books in the house (hahahahahahaha) I picked out this volume as one of the books to take on my trip to Florida to see the Falcon Heavy’s inaugural launch. I knew Gore Vidal’s name, as I am the progeny of two Enlgish Professors, but had never read one of his books. This is an oversight that has no been corrected and I look forward to reading more of his work. This particular Historical Novel is set in the past - around 500BC. It is told as remeniscences of a man who was raised in Persia at the height of its power. He ended up being an Ambassador to both India and China. Lots of cool information and historical detail. The man in his travels encounters many people, including the Buddha and Confuscios. Great read if anyone likes that sort of thing.
