Flying Colors - Book
This was the third Hornblower book written, and the first that I read. Had I known that there were books about his earlier life readily available at the library, I might have put of reading this one. Oh well. We all know he can't die this early in the series anyway.
HH is already captain of some repute when this story starts. A surprising amount of it happens on land. First with him as a prisoner in France and then as he tries to escape France. Ooops, spoiler. Anyway, the book was full of HH's typical dark contemplations, juxtaposed with his daring exploits. And a few lucky coincidences, so important in books of this sort. So much fun. I might just have to look for the Captain and Commander books after this. Ahoy and avast!
